Audi's newest electric vehicle additions, the 2022 E-Tron S Sportback and E-Tron S SUVs, prioritize power. However, a faster, more performance-oriented version called the E-Tron S will be available this fall as a 2022 model.
The three motors deliver a combined output of 496 hp and 718 lb-ft of torque, though this peak output is only available in eight-second bursts. According to Audi, the E-Tron S and E-Tron S Sportback will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. The vehicles' top speed is limited to 130 mph.
The battery is the same 95-kilowatt-hour unit used in standard E-Trons. The battery is expected to last 204 miles in the standard E-Tron and 218 miles in the more aerodynamic E-Tron Sportback, according to the EPA. The standard E-Tron S model has an EPA-estimated range of 208 miles, while the E-Tron S Sportback has a range of up to 212 miles.
The S models, according to Audi, operate in rear-wheel-drive mode as much as possible to maximize efficiency, with the front motor kicking in when the driver requires more performance or slip is detected. Aside from the powertrain, the S versions of the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback benefit from suspension and steering system performance tuning.
The S models are also nearly two inches wider than the regular E-Trons. Engineers have been able to fit wider wheels and tyres as a result of this. However, drag is kept to a minimum thanks to clever flow-optimized wheel arch extensions and flaps in the front brake ducts that are kept as closed as possible to streamline airflow.
There are a few sporty touches inside, such as bolstered seats with nappa leather trim. Owners will also notice a number of "S" logos throughout the cabin, as well as the top-tier version of Audi's infotainment system. There is a head-up display available.
