DESCRIPTION

The 2021 S5 Sportback S5 TDI quattro tiptronic performs well on our test track in the domain of entry-level luxury-sport sedans, but falls short in terms of driver involvement. The Sportback lies between the more laid-back A5 Sportback and the rocket-powered RS5 Sportback.

However, because to its smartly incorporated hatchback, the S5 Sportback is more practical than comparable sport sedans. For the 2021 model year, the S5 Sportback gains more amenities as standard in various trims and packages.

As standard equipment, all S5 levels include Audi's smartphone interface with wireless Apple CarPlay, lane departure warning, and an integrated toll-road payment transmission capability. The Convenience Package now includes a heated steering wheel as well as front and rear parking sensors, in addition to keyless ignition, blind-spot monitoring, and heated side mirrors.

For 2021, the Premium Plus trim level has adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist and a rearview camera as standard. For the 2021 model year, heated rear seats will be included on the top-tier Prestige trim.

According to the EPA, the 2021 S5 Sportback will get 20/27 mpg city/highway. These figures are lower than the Audi's previous model year, when it was rated at 21/30 mpg. While we haven't tested a 2021 S5 Sportback on our real-world highway fuel-economy route, the last one we looked at got 33 mpg.

The inside of the S5 Sportback is made of high-quality materials, has excellent fit-and-finish, and is ergonomically designed. Despite its low roofline, the Sportback has a surprisingly large interior. Those looking for even more inside space can consider the less swoopy but functionally comparable Audi S4 car, which has over 0.5 inch greater legroom for rear-seat occupants.

The S5 Sportback includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen as standard, replacing an 8.3-inch centre screen. The new system still has built-in navigation and wireless device charging, but it no longer has the rotary controller on the centre console, which was more intuitive than touch inputs.

Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, voice control, and Bluetooth phone and audio.
