DESCRIPTION

Swift 5 by Acer is a featherweight champion. Acer Swift 5 despite its small size, it has a long battery life and a bright 1080p display. This remarkably light laptop is priced to sell for $999 for a variant with a Core i7 CPU and 512GB of RAM. There are a few wrinkles to work out. The arrangement of the keyboard, while comfortable, is inconvenient for anyone who utilizes the "delete" key.

Furthermore, Acer now sells the Swift 5 with only 8GB of RAM, and the Swift 5's Core i7 CPU isn't the fastest, so power users should search elsewhere. Still, if portability is a priority, the Swift 5 is a terrific laptop. As I write this review, only two Swift 5 configurations are available.

The base model comes with a Core i5-1035G1 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD . The processor is upgraded to a Core i7-1065G7 while everything else remains the same. However, this isn't the whole tale. Acer appears to be planning a follow-up using Nvidia's new MX350 discrete GPU. The Swift 5 from Acer was one of the few laptops I examined last year that truly wowed me.

Because Acer reduced the screen size from 15.6 to 14 inches on the new model, the effect is exacerbated. As a result, the new Swift 5's dimensions and weight have been reduced to 12.5 x 8.3 x 0.6 inches and 2.2 pounds, respectively.

This makes the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon lighter than the 13.3-inch MacBook Air (0.6 inches, 2.8 pounds), the 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 3 (0.6 inches, 2.9 pounds), and even the 13.3-inch MacBook Air (0.6 inches, 2.8 pounds) (0.6 inches, 2.4 pounds). The exquisite design is finished off with a gold hinge and a chrome Acer logo on the lid. A fingerprint sensor on the deck and a notch to make the lid easier to open are two other prominent features.

The Swift 5 has a good port variety. A Thunderbolt 3 port, USB 3.1 Type-A input, and an HDMI connection are located on the left side. A second USB 3.1 port, a headphone/mic jack, and a Kensington lock are located on the laptop's right side.

The Swift 5 has a 14-inch 1080p display that is vivid and brilliant. Some displays are either extremely reflective or matte, giving them a washed-out appearance. The Swift 5's panel strikes a good mix between the two. The Swift 5's 4.1 x 2.5-inch touchpad is adequate. My cursor was a little jumpy at times because it wasn't the smoothest, but I had no trouble using Windows 10 motions like pinch-to-zoom and three-finger swipe to switch between programs.

The Swift 5's Intel Core i7-1065G7 CPU and 8GB of RAM provided enough power for me to write this evaluation while simultaneously running 16 Google Chrome instances. Even when I started a few 1080p YouTube videos and a Twitch live, I didn't detect any stuttering.

Power users, on the other hand, might want to hold until until a variant with 16GB of RAM is available, especially since memory isn't upgradeable. When purchasing the Swift 5, be sure to include a nice Bluetooth speaker or wireless headphones in your online shopping cart. It lacked bass and didn't get loud enough.
